yesterday i finally went to tour around the Nidaros cathedral of trondheim together with jenelyn, as they had put Idar back under a cocktail of drugs to make him sleep again as he needs the rest. Quick facts of the cathedral include it being built from 1070 onwards , is the most important Gothic monument in Norway and was Northern Europe's most important Christian pilgrimage site during the Middle Ages. Its the northenmost medieval cathedral in the world and Saint Olav is buried somewhere in it. oh and miracles happened where his body was first buried apparently.i just fell in love with the cathedral windows because of how beautiful they looked with the sun shining in.
the cathedral is really high inside, and it was used for coronations at one point but stopped in the very early 1900s.

this is where we lit a candle or two for Idar, in hopes that his recovery will be smooth. we could also write prayers on cards that will be read out on sunday during mass.
for 90nkr, we could visit two places. inside the cathedral and the museum at the archbishop's palace right next to it. they had a scale model of the Nidaros, which i took pics of to better show the whole structure XD
of course this model didnt have the statues of the saints, because that would be a LOT of detail!!

then we have their biggest window there, which i bought some postcards of because it was simply beautiful. 
the archibishop's palace we couldnt explore all of course, just part of it that was the museum. but i liked how they had models showing the changes in its structure from when it was first built till today.

they also had cool slabs with runic inacriptions!
they have also managed to recover some statues and fragments from the cathedral, which got damaged quite alot over the centuries.

and this one is just creepy because in one game i watched alex play.. he went around hell trying to do stuff and there were souls in the walls of hell exactly like these. and there was a big chopper constantly chopping their heads off, which regrows. so they moan and scream the entire time.
a statue of a warrior, quite viking-like. i'm quite amused that even in norway you have little figurines of vikings that have horns on their helmets.. something they're NOT supposed to have.

they also have troll statues! from what i learnt from a norwegian movie, trolls dont like christians. so i thought it was funny to have trolls on a cathedral XD

they have also preserved some of the archbishop's letters. 
the original letter! if anyone ever thought my smallest handwriting was small.. wait till you see this guy's. its MINUTE.

while in the cathedral, i fancied myself in the great hall of Hogwarts. so when i saw this face.. i really couldnt help thinking it was a house elf XD
The oldest intact mint in Europe is here! so much interesting things in one small area.
this is part of the original mint, which is tiled with what was back then very expensive flooring. 
and this is what the mint looked like back in its former glory.

at one floor, they had this sign that said the heads and stuff are 'true to life', blablabla.. then i saw THIS.
who the beep looked like that?! but i guess perhaps this might be copies of the original figures XDthey also had a small section of pottery and fragments from various parts of the world, even chinese.
didnt strike me as a very old piece, plus they didnt state a date for it. so might as well have gone to a shop, buy something cheap, and break it to display XD.
that was a long post! shall take a rest now. its been so busy i've had no time to prepare at all for any special cny things. ah well..
today i spent just about half the day with jenelyn, mostly at the hospital. for the first time i got to see Idar, lying drugged down in bed. it was quite a sad sight at first, but jenelyn cheered up lots when she saw how much he was moving today. a new experience for me, but i think it would be a valuable one for my future career?talked alot with the three different nurses who took turns in the ward, and found out there isnt many ghost stories in norwegian hospitals. nothing of interest at least XD. i went happily digging at information and curious questions that popped in my head. being nurses in the neurointensive ward, they did have quite a lot of experiences with patients waking from comatose states. i wonder what i shall talk with them about tomorrow, jenelyn keeps insisting on one of the nurses having to find a bf... XDa quick peek at the 995nkr per night hotel room. single bed with a small night table and a desk nearby, a very slim closet , and a slim column of shelves. a sofa chair and small table at another corner. small but cosy room i guess, with a tv.
the bathroom was actually quite big, perhaps takes up 1/3 of the room. it could have had a bathtub instead of a shower though.
i brought her to the Nidaros Cathedral, but it was closed. half to an hour earlier than stated on different websites. BOO. so we shall try again tomorrow, depending on Idar's condition.since she was in a good mood, i brought her to try trondheim's best burger at a takeaway place called Sesam. you can order various burgers in various sizes there, from 100g to 330g patties X)of course i had to order at least one 330g burger right?
half the burger was good enough to make me feel full actually... the patty tasted suspiciously like a blend of meat, i think i tasted a hint of lamb in it XDSesam is a simple place with one or two cooking people and one shady character lurking behind the kitchens... and delivery man i think?
lastly, my snack for today afternoon (excludingalittlechocolatedonut) was a special chocolate protein bar. one of those diet snack thingies that alex said was good. its like eating chocolate fudge thats not sweet enough to make you stop eating after two bites. YUM. and since it satisfied my tastebuds, i didnt feel too hungry till dinner. 
supposed to clean up my nails today but feeling so tired X__x. gonna aim to sleep early today so i can be good support tomorrow and keep that smile plastered to my face.
these few days will be spent with Jenelyn mostly, i think. her husband is still in hospital, still unconscious. its been quite tough for her.yesterday we brought her to a nearby hotel, where the hospital had arranged a room for her because there was no special room for her to rest in in the department her husband is now moved to. there is a small hotel inside the hospital itself, but i assume its fully booked or she'd have a room there? for a single room and breakfast, its 995 nkr a night. good thing the company is paying her expenses...jenelyn was actually in a nunnery school in the philippines, with the intention of becoming a nun i think. so based on that i thought she might like to go to the Nidaros, the huge cathedral in Trondheim. its her first visit here and its not good to be alone in a room to mope. might as well go see some sights and get some mental relief in prayer... have to shop abit for more necessities as well. since its a head injury, i assume they will take at least 3 days of observation and rest after he wakes up? been trying to tell her that so she would get a couple more clothing. shall bring her a small trolley bag today too.at least, she has been enjoying the dinners i think. company and nice food from Mien Trung ( now renamed Phu Yen), probably the best asian restaurant we know here XD. i told alex that when her husband wakes up and all is good, we should take her to a nicer place to celebrate.9am now, shall call her in half an hour. mildly debating whether i should go out on my own to fix a new sim card with a norwegian number. but i think i should wait to go with alex for that, because of the different telephone companies and some are apparently bad. we tried to get one last night at two different shops, but one had no internet and the other couldnt connect to the server of the phone company. how heartening is that?
today we received 12 missed calls from Mary, because we were asleep and the phone was on silent mode. Jenelyn, a woman from work from philippines, was in Trondheim because her husband Idar who also works at the same place, fell from a ladder and got quite injured. we were asked to go assist her in any way she needed, take her out for dinner and grab some clothes and other necessities as well, since they were rushed over with a helicopter. from what i know so far, he's hurt his head and arm. but when we arrived at the hospital and spent an hour there just looking for her... (its huge, and her phone was off.) all the other scans and checks were done, and they had just started on a ct scan. since it would take awhile plus he was out cold, we brought her out for a nice dinner and a quick shopping trip. i think it helped improve her mood, although i'm quite concerned how she'll be tonight. can tell she's been crying abit.so tomorrow will be spent with her as well i guess. if Idar is awake we'll probably visit him to see how he is.got a headache now, so i'll just lie back and chill today
once again, bloggin in backward order of today's activities! we ended our day watching a movie called War Horse, which is quite... hmm. annoying sad at some points. but happy ending :)we made 8 rolls of maki rolls, which cuts into 8 big bitefulls X). i even laid out the table nicely
and had joco pose in it of course.
yummy yummy maki! while helping to fry the prawns i got some oil splattered on my knuckle, which lead to a loud 'OOOWWW!!!' and a jerk of a fork covered in batter, splattering all around and scaring joco XD.
gotta go to daiso to pick up more crockery one day hehe. nice jappy stuff there. the guys didnt eat salmon because they thought the prawns were enough, so we'll probably be making it again on friday. i wonder what i can do for myself because i dont eat raw salmon and i dont wish to fry prawns again.abalone slices would be so wonderful.before that we went to the gym again, and after that mildly long walk, Tina enters the gym and yells '****!!! I FORGOT MY SHOES!'. yeah, i go to the gym without my jogging shoes . it was immediately suggested i just go around in my socks. my cute kapibara-san green socks. i decided to bicyle and then jog abit later when less people were around XD joco, amund and alex did weights and stuff mainly. 
aaand before that we went shopping for sushi stuff, and lookie what alex found!
we of course bought a jar, and will be cooking it soon! :D cant wait to try it!lastly, i drooled over this huge scallops for 129nkr. maybe one day when i feel richer i'll get some.
